TORI Global/Houses of Parliament Panel Discussion

TORI Global/Houses of Parliament Panel Discussion
Does a Coalition Government Mean a New Approach to Managing Climate Change?
Both the Conservative and Liberal Democrat election manifestos promised a 'green future' for Britain, committing themselves to action on a range of initiatives including energy efficiency, energy security, green jobs, meeting carbon reduction targets and protecting the environment.  With addressing economic challenges a primary concern of the new coalition government, will these green aspirations be achievable?  If so, how will the Government balance the priorities of leading the UK out of recession whilst enforcing new regulation, such as the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, to reduce carbon emissions?

TORI Global, in conjunction with the Industry and Parliament Trust, recently hosted keynote speeches, a panel discussion and reception to discuss future Parliamentary actions, industry trends and business experience in realising a low-carbon future.

The speakers were:

·         Sally Muggeridge – IPT Chief Executive

·         Emma Wild – Principal Policy Advisor, Climate Change – CBI

·         Will Oulton – Mercer Investment Consulting

·         Paul Dight – Managing Associate, Addleshaw Goddard LLP

·         Lord Redesdale – Vice Chair All Party Climate Change Group (Lib Dem)

The panel discussion aimed to help organisations understand the opportunities, risks and implications of these commitments, including:

·         The coalition Government's plans for meeting green commitments

·         Latest developments in environmental regulation

·         How organisations will benefit from successfully implementing sustainability best practice

·         Realising the strong business case for environmental excellence
